Astrologers, people of the Orient, and many others work on the theory that there are seven chakras in the body. These points, in a straight line, are going from the end of one's spine to the head. Each point represents energy affecting different parts of the body. It's believed that an energy force, called kundalini, is located in the chakra at the spine's base. Kundalini meditation is concentrated on this area.
It is envisioned as coiled, similar to a snake and, in yoga, is called a corporeal energy or an unconscious, instinctive force. There are a number of different 'methods' used to awake the kundalini. This might include things such as breathing exercises, prayer and concentration, righteous living and a number of other things.
Physical and spiritual energy are located in everyone's body. It's felt that this type of exercise can bring this energy to their maximum potential. Those who use this type of meditation describe it as becoming more aware of one's true self and bringing sensations of purity in love, joy and knowledge.
As with a number of other types of this exercise, the main methods are breathing and relaxation exercises as well as sitting in the correct position. With this type of exercise, it is emphasized that the body should be straight at all times to allow the energy to travel through the spine to the head. It is suggested that anyone wishing to try this kind of deliberation begin under the instruction of someone trained in this field.
People who use this type of meditation report that they can feel the energy flowing through their body from the spine's base. Some report a feeling of heat and others even feel vibrations. All report some type of activity within the body is relayed to the brain.
This action is said to allow a person complete relaxation with all cares of a day eliminated from the body. This is a great method for people who are under constant pressure, at work or elsewhere, to find a way to obtain relief from stress and anxiety. A large number use this method of respite as a daily routine.
There are many types of meditations and not all work for everyone. It's suggested that, under the direction of someone skilled in the area, that a number of different methods are tried until one that is found that is comfortable and rewarding. Whether it's kundalini meditation or some other kind, it is a wonderful way to leave the cares of the day behind and find inner peace and relaxation when under any kind of stress.
